One of the biggest events of the Italian literary season, the Campiello Prize owes its success to the originality of the formula. Among the works of Italian fiction published during the year in spring a jury of critics choose five authors, then entrusts their fate to a large panel of three hundred readers "non-professionals", i.e. workers, students, doctors, housewives, lawyers, actresses. The final decision is up to these three hundred strangers who judges, with their listings, choose the winner. The award takes place in the evening of the first Saturday of September, in the Palazzo Ducale.
