The most lively streets of Venice, 300 m long, connecting Rialto to San Marco. Surrounded by the most beautiful shops of the city, is divided from the Rialto, in three parts: the Haberdashery of s. Salvador (also called "Mercerie del capitello" for the Tabernacle that contained therein); the Marceria di san Giuliano (after the "ponte dei bareteri", named for the old shops of haters) and, finally, the Mercerie dell' orologio, in homage to the clock tower of the Moors. The Mercerie, in past centuries, were the way of representation, in which they passed the Doges, distinguished visitors, but also sentenced to death.
